Description of professional context:
The participants that will be involved in the implementation of Imagine IT project are students and teachers of Carver Military Academy in Chicago. Carver Military Academy is a selective enrolment school that integrates college preparatory and JROTC instructional model. The participants are 9th grade biology students that meet 51 minutes class period daily. The project will run throughout the school year.
The Big Idea: Teaching for Aesthetic Understanding in Biology
Objectives:
Biology is a year long content offered to ninth grade students. The content is divided into thematic units. The units are: Cellular Structure and Function, Cellular Energy, Cellular Transport, Reproduction and Genetics, History of the Earth, Evolution and Ecology.
The units are mapped out throughout the school year, lesson scope and sequence, objectives, essential questions and lesson plans are uploaded on curriculum maps.

- Create aesthetic aligned lesson
- Increase HOTS through aesthetic teaching
- Increase student engagement and grit through aesthetic learning

Performances of understanding that students will demonstrate throughout the school year are:
- Apply aesthetic learning strategies to demonstrate understanding of content.
- Students will use their senses ( sight, sound, touch, smell, and hearing) to demonstrate aesthetic understanding of content. Performances of understanding includes skits, info-graphics, visual arts communicating facts through music (raps,) and creative methods that probes higher order thinking skills. A rubric will be used to evaluate student work.
